If you are a small business owner, do you feel confident enough in the economy now to hire more workers? If not, what steps need to be taken to convince you that it is wise to hire more workers now?

Small business owners should be more cautious than ever in operating their business considering the present economy. Unless you live in area sheltered from the current economy or operate a business serving a market that is not affected by it, my advice would be to reduce your debt as much as possible and wait for an upturn before committing to more expense.

Reduced unemployment, appreciation of value in the real estate market, and increased profitability in your own business as well as larger, publically traded businesses across the country, would indicate economic improvement that can be sustained and relied on. Expanding your small business prior to that would be very risky.
